Match Report
Having conceded 10 goals in the previous two games, Romans decided to start the game lethargically and see if Stopsley could take advantage.
Well for the first 15 minutes Stopsley took advantage but, even with the constant pressure and lions share of the posession, they failed to open the scoring.
Against the run of play on 21 minutes Wall marked his return to the big time with a crisp finish following a neat flick from Wyatt who had, until then, been struggling to come to terms with being in the starting XI instead of running the line.
Romans started to come more into the game and with the defence holding firm started to get more posession and string some passes together. On the stroke of half-time, a suicidal throw from 'keeper Pratt was made to
look good buy the strength and power of full back Lanham. His well weighted ball down the right was picked up by Gunning who, having beat his man, pulled the ball back for Kendal to calmly finish from close in. (Calmly that is if you really need 5 touches from 2yds out!).
2-0 at half-time, a bit flattering on balance of play.
The second half saw Romans have much more of the ball and take command. On 64 minutes Wall strode up to make it 3-0 from the penalty spot following a foul on Wyatt.
"OH NO HE DIDN'T!" Nobody can ever remember him missing a penalty before but miss he did.
Anyway, 11 minutes later and a quick Baxter free kick saw Kendal beat the offside trap, flick the ball over the keeper and put it in the net. OH NO HE DIDN'T! Wall pushed him out of the way to take the glory and make up for his spot kick miss.
3-0 Romans and the game was effectively over. Stopsley kept pushing however and only some good defending kept the sheet clean but, in time added on, MOTM Powell rose at the back post for the second week running to make it 4-0 from Baxters pinpoint corner.
4-0, slightly more than the performance deserved but nice to come away with a clean sheet, no bookings and no injuries.
Need to work on everyone hitting top form at the same time and being ready from the off for next weeks cup tie!
