Match Report
Poetry in Motion
Well, 'twas the match before Xmas, and if the 2nd team manager had stirred himself a bit more we could have kicked off on time.
As it was preparation was somewhat disrupted by the late arrival of the kit but this didn't prevent Romans from ending 2006 in fine style with an emphatic victory against a below strength Stopsley.
Four goals in the first sixteen minutes effectively finished off this game before half time.
6' 1-0 Scrappy one for Gray who has found his scoring touch again following a pass from Whittaker who is making a major assault for the "assist king" award.
8' 2-0 Romans with Harris capitalising on a back pass that the 'keeper couldn't deal with.
11' 3-0 Whittaker and Harris (their pre-Christmas on field truce in place) combined well for the latter to continue his impressive scoring
run (imagine how many goals you'd have if you'd kept your mouth shut in the first game of the season Mr Harris!)
16' 4-0 Good interplay between Harris and Gray for Gray to score his 2nd and Romans 4th.
?? 4-1 Pouncey decided to make up the Gaffers mind about who to sub at half time and was caught glider watching to allow Stopsley in for a consolation goal.
HT 4-1 and with the game won it was safe to bring on Wyatt (for Pouncey) to see what he was made of.
49' 5-1 A good cross (albeit deflected) from Gray was met by Kendal and his fairly well struck volley gave the 'keeper no chance.
52' 6-1 Dogs out for a quiet morning stroll with their owners were sent into a frenzy by the high pitch Northern wailings of Wyatt "Oooh, I've scored, I've scored!" as some good closing down from Harris set him one up on a plate.
62' Sub - Wilson for Gray
63' 7-1 Great run and pinpoint cross from Whitty after good work from Tom "hand in goal" Gunning and Harris heads in well to complete yet
another hat trick (but would the unpopular loner get the MOTM votes?)
67' 8-1 As if the day couldn't get any worse, a Harris cross was turned in by an unlucky Stopsley defender.
70' 9-1 Nooooo! Harris get's the last goal after a great assist by Baxter (and having missed 3 easier chances).
Great result to end the 2006 on and no bookings again.
Merry Xmas to everyone and let's continue the form into the New Year which starts with a tricky away tie in the National Christian Cup.
We've had no bookings for ages, do you think it's Rich's gay influence? He was trying to get JK's shorts off before the game and was making comments about my clothes so he obviously takes note of what I wear! Just a thought, maybe we should put it to a vote?
