Match Report
Very bad day at the office
Romans suffered their first league defeat of the season against a determined and organised St Georges.
Although the game had to be played away from Fortress Boggymead and a couple of regulars were missing, there were no excuses for this woeful display.
From the off, St Georges were quicker to the ball and enjoyed the time and space given to them on the ball.
Romans did have the ball in the net after 5 minutes but the goal was ruled out for a tight offside.
St Georges endeavour paid off on 27 minutes when a quick free kick from wily Disco Dave gave them a deserved lead.
Romans replied 8 minutes later to draw level after Harris laid the ball back to Lanham who found Kendal in acres in the box and the midfielder finished well with the outside of his boot.
1-1 at half time and Romans had got themselves back into the game despite never really getting going.
The second half saw Romans start off in a more familiar style and on 51 minutes Saints 'keeper pulled off a good save after Harris had been put through by Potter. Moments later Harris was through again and this time his point cross was put wide by the usually clinical Gray.
The save and miss proved to be costly as this was the only period in the game that Romans looked anything like the team they usually do.
On 58 minutes some shambolic defending saw Saints go 2-1 up and 7 minutes later it was 3-1 following a defensive error.
The rest of the game saw chances at both ends and a couple more good saves from Saints keeper meant the points deservedly won the points.
Fact 1 - We are not good enough to turn up and just expect the opposition to give us 3 points every week.
Fact 2 - We are a team and our success this season has come by playing as a team.
Fact 3 - We need to look at our own individual performances and not criticise our teammates.
Fact 4 - We are a good team but only when we do our individual jobs and work for each other.
Fact 5 - This result is a warning
Fact 6 - Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships (Michael Jordan)
