Match Report
Happy Harris Hammers Home a Handful
In conditions that were more suited to white water rafting, Romans resumed league activities with an emphatic 10-0 victory.
With both regular strikers missing due to injury and girlfriend commitments, the second string strike partnership of Harris and Wyatt were given a full ninety minutes to stake their claim for a place in the
following weeks National Cup clash in Chelmsford.
On a sloping pitch, the first 10 minutes were fairly even but the breakthrough came 2 minutes later when a strong run by Kendall saw his cross turned into the net by a Kings defender.
The game was still a tight affair although Kings lost much of their potency up front when their speedy forward sustained an injury.
Two goals in six minutes just before half time effectively sealed the victory and showed a hint of what the second period was to bring.
The first came from Baxter's low drive after a Konkolys cross bounced off Harris and the second from Harris after a smart turn and shot.
3-0 at half time.
With the rain lashing down and several impressive lightning strikes in the vicinity there was a feeling that the game may be called off.
On 49 minutes Kendal released Wyatt inside the box and his improvised shot on the slide gave him a rare goal.
Three minutes later Kendal netted after what was to be the last pass of the game from Harris.
Kendal put Kumar through on 57 minutes and the hardworking skipper finished with a delightful chip over the stranded 'keeper.
Harris then took over. A good combination with Wyatt saw him score in 64th minute to make it 7-0 and an unselfish pass from Whittaker gave him his second successive hat-trick in the 73rd.
Kumar put him clean (muddy?) through in the 82nd and his fifth goal was scored three minutes from time after a great cross from Konkoly.
Just before the full time whistle a rainbow appeared and the rain finally stopped.
An amazing result in equally amazing conditions and a special mention to the defence for managing to keep a clean sheet in conditions made for fancy dan strikers.
