Match Report

A Scrappy Scrappy Doo

Despite Romans having to rearrange formation due to the absence of in-form "Shaggy" Wyatt and "Freddie" Gunning, this performance was something of a mystery to the on-looking crowd.

This was a below par affair and the shot from "Daphne" Harris that hit the outside of the post after 6 minutes was not the sign of things to come.

Romans suffered from not taking the few chances that came their way and the game seemed destined to be 0-0 at half time when Harris dribbled through the Hemel defence to tee up Baxter who hit a low, well placed shot into the far corner of the net on 43 minutes.

This would have been a good base to build on in the second half but a defensive lapse saw Hemel's lively number nine evade the three pursuing defenders and round the helpless keeper to calmly finish 2 minutes later. A well taken goal but appalling defensive work!

1-1 at half time and it was clear that, if Romans were to win the game, more effort and thought were going to be needed.

Things didn't really improve much but Romans were enjoying more of the pressure.

It took a storming run and pin point cross from stand in left back and avid Scooby Doo fan Whittaker to break the deadlock as his cross was met with a header from Harris in the 74th minute.

Hemel didn't give up though and despite Romans looking the fitter they fought back well to equalise with less than 10 minutes to go following a mis-kick which turned into a good pass.

It was beginning to look like Romans had left it too late but in the 88th minute a cross from the left found Gray who passed the
responsibility on to Harris for him to score his second (albeit after an air shot), Romans third and the games winning goal.

Not a good performance but a good result against a much improved Hemel side from the one we comfortably beat on the opening day of the season.
