Match Report

A new season always comes with great expections and travelling to Galley Hill, the expectency was greater than ever. A change of leagues would hopefully signal a change of fortunes and some new personnel give us the start we were looking for.

A scrappy first half saw neither team play any fluid football, but in defence we looked well organised and quite comfortable. There were few chances in the first half and when they did come we lacked any real composure. Tim James and Kevin McKinlay both flashed chances wide. Romans came closest as Terry Wall's freekick hit the angle of post and crossbar.

The second started as the first had and as few chances were created. The nervousness and lack of composure on the ball were hallmarks of a opening day game. Throughout the game the back four were very solid with Chris Barton's standout performance on debut, only eclipsed by Liam Lynch's commanding man of the match display in goal.

In a game of few chances, we had the better but it was a case of nearly, but not quite. This was never truer than after lobbing the keeper from outside the keeper, Tim James had to watch as his effort bounced agonizinlgy over the bar.

A point is a point, but looking back on the match, we could have got all three. A tougher challenge lies ahead next week in the local derby against Kings Sport.
